HiSky reaches 5 million passengers milestone Lucky passenger wins a full year of free flights ...

At the end of June, HiSky surpassed 5 million passengers transported since its commercial debut. The 5,000,000th traveler flew on Thursday, June 26, on the Frankfurt - Bucharest route and was greeted at the boarding gate by the airline’s representatives with a special prize, a full year of free flights on this route. Additionally, all passengers on the same flight were invited to take part in a celebratory raffle, where several prizes were awarded, including free tickets, travel vouchers, and HiSky aircraft models.
This latest milestone comes just over two years after HiSky celebrated its first million passengers, in the spring of 2023. Since then, the airline has steadily expanded its route network, adding both direct and connecting flights, and increased its operational capacity. The current fleet includes eight Airbus aircraft, among them the company’s first wide-body jet, introduced for long-haul operations. Growth has been fueled by rising demand for regular flights from Romania and the Republic of Moldova, as well as continued investment in operational infrastructure and destination development.
“We’ve always aimed to build a healthy airline, with a realistic and sustainable growth pace, and a business model aligned with our market. We haven’t chased big numbers overnight, but long-term consistency built on passenger trust and service quality. Reaching 5 million passengers in just four years of operations is not only a validation of our efforts, but also a clear sign that travelers choose us, return to us, and recommend us. It’s a moment to look back with pride, but also to keep our focus on what’s ahead, because there’s still much we want to accomplish,” said Iulian Scorpan, CEO of HiSky.
One of the most defining moments in HiSky’s development came with the launch of direct flights between Bucharest and New York, in the summer of 2024. The company’s first transatlantic service also marked the entry into regular service of the Airbus A330-200 wide-body aircraft, with a range of over 13 hours and a configuration tailored to long-haul comfort. One year after the route was inaugurated, more than 40,000 passengers have chosen this direct connection between Romania and the United States, confirming both its commercial potential and symbolic value, reestablishing a link that had been missing for over two decades.
HiSky is currently the second-largest Romanian airline by passenger numbers, trailing only the national carrier. The company operates flights from seven airports in Romania and the Republic of Moldova - Bucharest, Oradea, Timișoara, Cluj, Baia Mare, Iași, and Chișinău - to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and North America. In addition to its regular schedule, HiSky also runs charter services to top holiday destinations across Europe, Asia, and Africa, in partnership with leading travel agencies.
